Those of you who’ve followed the rise of Britain’s sanctified dance scene will recognise Elaine as one of the great divas who in the past has lent her considerable vocal talents to The World Wide Message Tribe. Now with her solo debut, released rather frustratingly for British fans on a German label, we can thrill again to that warmly enveloping voice, which curls and glides across a strutting dance funk groove or a wistful ballad, with the soulful assurance of the gifted few. Production here is by the superbly talented and rather underrated Matt Wanstall, and though not quite having the sheen of one of those American, huge budget gospel houseproductions, such is the quality of Elaine’s voice and some good material from her songwriting pen, that this release deserves maximum exposure.
