na" (Aramaic), "Hoshi'a na" (Hebrew)
= "God save us!" An exceptional case is that of the English word "hosanna" which is defined in English dictionaries as "an exclamation of praise, acclamation or adoration." Underlying the English form is the Hebrew "hosha' na," which expresses a request for salvation. This precise form of the expression is not actually found anywhere in the Bible, nor does its meaning fit the english dictionaries' associations with praise or acclamation. The word is widely know from its important use in the services during the Sukkot festival of the Lord. Waving our lulavim people circle the synagogue reciting prayers with the repeated litany of "Hosha' na," "God save us!" as we beseech God for bounteous and rain-filled year and for a speedy national redemption. On the seventh day, known as "the Great Hoshana" (Hoshana' Rabba) the ceremony is performed repeatedly and with great solemnity. The "Hosha' na" formula originated as the Aramaic rendering of the Hebrew "Hoshi'a na" in the Hallel (Psalms118:25). -- Hallelujah, Halleluyah, or Alleluia, is a transliteration of the Hebrew word. (Standard Hebrew Halluya, meaning "[Let us] praise Jah (Yah)" (Yah is short for the holy 4 letter Hebrew name of God YHVH, or Yahweh) (Sometimes rendered as "Praise [the] LORD (Yah) or God"). It is found mainly in the book of Psalms. It has been accepted into the English language. The word is used in Judaism as part of the Hallel prayers. Alleluia is the Latin form of the word; it is used by Catholics in preference to Hallelujah. For most Christians, "Hallelujah" is considered the most joyful word of praise to God, rather than an injunction to praise Him. Bio: Anthony Dixon is a singer/songwriter who has worked with Tyler Perry, Diana Ross, Jennifer Holliday, Cissy Houston, and Melba Moore. He was born in Glendale, Arizona; but grew up in sunny Panama City, Florida, surrounded by a family of skilled musicians and vocalist who could stir the soul thru spiritual emotive music. Inevitably, he too developed a passion for music and that same ability to stir the soul. While he was introduced to all genres of music, gospel music played a big role in his music development with a southern Pentecostal sanctuary giving stage to his earliest performances. And so a little boy who stood and sang from the edge of an old wooden choir stand grew up to stand and sing at the edge of New York stages enthralling hundreds with a soulful voice clear as water and smooth as alabaster. He is a member of the JFM Band and has appeared on the morning show, Good Day Atlanta. He was also part of the revival of the musical "Purlie" with Melba Moore, Sherman Hemsley, and Robert Giluame. He has sung backup for New Kid's On the Block, and was the winner of the Georgia Music Industry Association's Urban competition for songwriters. He has performed at Ashford & Simpson's Sugar Bar, Tavern on the Green, the Russian Tea Room, Nells, Makors and has written songs for the Barrio Boyzz on the Latin Record Label, Fonovisa. He appeared in Atlanta's Alliance Theater's production of the musical "CHESS," directed by the brilliant David Bell. He has also played in "Ain't Misbehavin" twice, once with the Theatre Arts Guild of Atlanta and once with the North Carolina Stage Ensemble. Anthony now resides in New York City where he continues to pursue a career in the music industry, shaping beautiful melodies into gems of great inspiration. As you listen to this man’s music savoring the many ingredients of feel good emotion you’ll come to the same discovery of several others; that where ever the stage and whom ever the audience, one thing is very clear; this young mans music holds a very important ingredient…the power to stir the soul.
